TIGI aims to provide environmentaly-friendly and economically attractive solutions for the tremendous need of heat, where and when it is most needed, including in cold climates and demanding applications such as space heating and industrial process heat.
Headquartered in Israel, TIGI invented the Honeycomb Collector that has been shown to top best of breed collectors in high temperature differential scenarios, in a combination of cost and performance parameters. Our Honeycomb Collector enjoys the resilience and low costs usually seen with the much simpler (and lower performing) flat plate collectors.
Our collectors have been thoroughly tested and validated by the world's most esteemed research institutions, including Germany's Fraunhofer ISE and Switzerland's SPF. The Collectors are currently operational in multiple pilot projects in Europe and North America.
TIGI's story begins with the 1979 oil crisis. Shimon Klier (TIGI's chairman and founder) was then the controlling shareholder and CEO of Argaman Industries Ltd., one of Europe's largest and most advanced textile factories. Over 1,000,000 m³ per annum of boiling hot water (burning a few tons per hour of fossil fuel) that were required for the chemical processes at Argaman, drove the plant to be the first Israeli company to implement coal burners. The surge in energy prices threatened the bottom line and caused Shimon to launch an effort to find renewable energy alternatives to heat water to close to the boil – as early as the 1980’s.
The result was the development and manufacturing of transparent insulation and implementation of solar ponds covered with a new type of solar-thermal collector that could preheat large amounts of water to close to boiling temperatures with unprecedented efficiency.
Collaboration ensued with the EU, continuing all the way to the mid 90's, for research and the creation of operating test sites for the basic collectors. Towards the turn of the century, as prices of oil sank, operations have been curtailed. In 2007, TIGI’s original founding team has joined with new management and R&D talent to form the Company in its current iteration.
